Physician Coaching
Over the past 10 years, I have developed considerable interest and experience in coaching physicians.
As a physician, you may self-refer by contacting me directly. As well as common client issues and concerns referred to elsewhere in this website, typical issues that physicians bring to coaching with me include addressing burnout and personal-professional life balance; restoring life meaning and fulfillment; increasing resilience and wellness; dealing with the demands and impacts of system-challenges, managing workplace challenges or interpersonal issues; and personal or professional transitions ranging from a new position or added leadership portfolio in the workplace to how to re-design their career or create a fulfilling retirement.
Or you may come to coaching as a result of a recommendation or request by a third party (e.g. the hospital, your legal counsel, university, professional or regulatory body) to address communication, collaboration or professionalism issues. The process and requirements in each of these situations are unique and I invite you to contact me to discuss the concerns and needs unique to your situation. Similarly, if you are a third party seeking coaching resources for a physician, I invite you to contact me to discuss your particular situation and needs. The Frequently Asked Questions section of this website; "What if I have been advised or mandated by a third party to engage in coaching?" may be helpful to review.
Examples of my physician specific coaching experience with specific organizations includes: Communication and Professionalism Coach with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario; Accredited Provider of Coaching Services with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC; Coaching services provided to the Ontario Medical Association Physician Health Program (OMA PHP); Certified Coach by the Canadian College of Health Leaders (LEADS Leadership in a Caring Environment); as well as the provision of coaching services to various Canadian academic medical organizations.
Professional coaching and CME credits: Please note that as of June 2022, both the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the College of Family Physicians of Canada have published statements permitting and explaining the claiming of professional coaching hours for credit toward CME.
